A militia is a group of citizens that become the military in a time of war. During peaceful times, they go about normal their normal jobs. They typically occasionally meet for training. Militiamen bring their own weapons, and are less trained than an active military.

Recruits are fully trained the same as in an active military, but go about normal lives until wartime. Weapons are are often government property.

An active military permanently employs units , is typically better trained than most other forms, and requires a large budget. Weapons are government property.

Mercenaries are temporary troops that are not necessarily a part of the Micronation, that can be bought in times of crisis. Weapons are often not owned by the government.

Paying other nations to use their military.

[edit] Cyber Branch / Digital Warfare

Another possible branch for defence, or even attack would be to take advantage of the internet, to virtually wage war. It is highly debatable on the true effectiveness of this method. But it is a method worth exploring. While it might not help directly on the ground in any situation, a team of experienced hackers and crackers to defend TPB servers from intrusion or carry out attacks on hostile networks.

These could be 'mercenaries' located around the world, or a dedicated team located directly in the nation.

The Piratical nation of sealand could be protected by a doomsday device. This would be triggered if the sovereignty of sealand or The Pirate Bay are attacked in a way which looks likely to cause the servers to go down. If The Pirate Bay dies we should take the world with us. Alternatively the physical sovereignity of sealand could be guaranteed by explosive devices capable of neutralising an attacking force sealand inhabitants and the sealand platform, being planted and triggered in the event of a physical attack. Other governments will avoid intervention if there is a possibility of bloodshed.

However this is not a very feasible alternative. One problem is building the Doomsday device which would be nearly impossible due to the scrutiny of the UN and other countrys.

It has been mostly decided upon that a pacifist strategy would work best, defending our nation as needed, but enforcing no military further then that.

It has been talked about on the forums of creating a TPB National Guard, Here are some proposed uniforms, vehicles and weapons we could have if we purchase Sealand or a Island. These equipment/uniforms would be for all National Guard, Custom Officers For Airport officials and CoastGuard.

If a militia force is indeed required, they will likely be armed with small arms suitible for thwarting internal attempts to take the island or whether the island is largera minitare aremy would be required.

All Military National Guardsmen will be equipt with 1x M4 Assault Rifle. If adequate funds are unavailable to purchase the required amount of weapons, the AK47 will be used instead as it can be bought at a lower price in much larger quantities. (Note: Coast Guard Personnel Will Have Same Weapon Secured on Ships and only to be taken out when boarding a foreign vessel or under fire) with additional equipment listed below.
